david shito:aL ~before your eyes, a collection of strangeness~ Their album, just like its title "hoshi no hako", is a toybox stuffed full of precious, precious treasures. Well, let us softly open the lid... So here is the toybox. Who knows if something will fly out from it! David Shito:aL's mysterious world draws heavily from fairy tales. From a punkish sound to classical, operatic compositions that make for dynamic songs, they are a wildly sensous group where anything goes. The album is "hoshi no hako". Minus Eruze (b), we have gathered the three of them here for an interview. --First, what does "david shito al" mean? Rietto (g): We heard a story about one said "Statue of David", which a certain people erected to meet an attack by enemies from the future. We are the "shito" [[followers]] of that. We had decided on the band name before we started the band. The color of the band is now a bit different from that, but for a band name it had mythical, legendlike, messianic connotations to it. As for "aL", we liked the ring it had to it so we added it on at the end (laughs). --What is the band's catch phrase? Rietto: When Pietro (vo.) joined the band his was "kanaderu otogi" [[basically meaning something like "musical fairy tale"--kanaderu is a verb that means to play a musical instrument, and otogi means fairy tale]] Pietro: The premise was to express a fairytale through music. I always have stories and strange poems swirling about in my head. So, when Misa (b) shows me a song, I get imagery in my head and just put words to it. Misa: I think it all begins from his own self. Pietro is the birthplace for David shito:aL. --The songs are very opera and play-ish. Misa: We make a story for each song. I originally was very much into classical music, so I have no interest in doing typical 4x4 bars of music. Rather, I'd like to destroy the notion that music has to be that way. David Shito:aL songs change with every step too, so there's an enjoyment in not knowing what will happen unless you listen to the end. --Your shows are also fun. Rietto: We got a support drummer for them, because when we thought about what a band should be, we realized a drum machine would be very taboo. We are a live band, and I want people to come see us in action. Misa: Definitely come see Pietro's unique behaviors. Pietro: In this picture [[featured in interview]], besides me, they are all toy dolls. Each of them has their own personality. Eruze is very conceited and has a stylish air about him; Rietto is always out of it but he's sweet and funny. And Misa is elegant and coolheaded. We portray these roles in our shows.
