October 15th, 2007:
We are excited to announce that Musea is now distributing Good Place, No Place in Europe! Musea is a renknowned resource for progressive rock and we hope that people in Europe and abroad now have an easier choice to purchase our cd. The direct link to purchase it can be found here.

October 2nd, 2007:
We have a few updates to report. Earlier in the summer we began recording An Atlas of Wilderness, and its sounding great so far! Its difficult to say when the sessions will be done, but an early release next year looks probable! We have also added links to somereviews for Good Place, No Place:

Maelstrom Zine
Gnosis Prog Review Site
USAprogmusic.com
Outer Music Blog
Nuclear-boy.com

So, if you haven't heard the album yet, or just curious how other prog rock fans rate it, be sure to read those. Finally, we have updated the Good Place, No Place page with 60 second samples from each song, in addition to the full mp3s that were available for download. And at last, we have added the page of outtakes , which documents songs that either didn't make it on GPNP for some reason, or are otherwise connected with the story/imagining of that album.

February 19th, 2007: So what has blue sky theory been up to this winter? Well, we did some fun shows in Berkeley and Oakland, debuting a lot of new material to some acclaim. Speaking of new material, we will be recording An Atlas of Wilderness in the coming months. Songs included are Providence, The Old World, Thistleeden, The Steep and Thorny Way, Sandland, Miskatonia, and The Kingdom of Tooth and Claw. We're very proud of the new work and feel that it goes one step further with the ideas of GPNP--romanticism, lovely and singular melodies, classical indulgence&western bravado-- while at the same time streamlining and refining our composition/arrangement. Gone, but not forgotten, are the days of 16-20 minute long marathon epics, now replaced with their more friendly 10-12 minute version. Hah! Of course, we are also still selling "Good Place, No Place" and will soon set up a dedicated mp3 page with samples and tracks from the whole album, as well as outtakes.

November 17th, 2006: Our November 25th show has been rescheduled to the 29th of December. In the meantime, be sure to come see us play at Blake's in Berkeley on Friday, December 8th.

November 10th, 2006:
New webpage design courtesy of our good friend Andrew at enticemedia.com. We also have two shows coming up, 11/25 at The Stork Club in Oakland and 12/8 Bourbon St in Concord. We'll be promoting Good Place, No Place, but also debuting brand new material! It will be your only chance to hear songs off An Atlas of Wilderness until we record it sometime next year, so don't miss it!

October 22nd, 2006:
We uploaded Good Place, No Place to Last.fm, which means that you can preview 30 seconds of every track here. We also wrote the last song for An Atlas of Wilderness, "The Kingdom of Tooth and Claw"; it's sparse, slow, quiet, relatively short, and only has two riffs! But it's a perfect album closer--you'll see. The lyrics are here. Look to the news entry directly below this one for the link to our myspace, with three complete songs from Good Place, No Place.

October 10th, 2006: Good Place, No Place is done!. As in, I'm sitting here with it right now! Those who pre-ordered will be receiving their copies post-haste, with some small bonuses thrown in. For those who haven't yet, you can listen to samples and purchase the album here, by clicking on the Buy Now button from paypal. We also have a myspace page, with three full songs (albeit with crappy bitrates... prog bands don't fare well with myspace's file size restrictions!) So, we'll be updating the design of this site soon and posting news of upcoming shows, reviews, releases, and news about our current work-in-progress, "An Atlas of Wilderness." Also look for a "good place no place" outtakes page to appear shortly, with alternate versions and other oddities from the recording sessions.

April 29th, 2006: Good Place, No Place should be back from mastering later today or tomorrow. Callie wrote the lyrics to what we had been calling "the Conan song" for a few weeks. Check out The Old World. We're going to try not to take six years to make an album, this time. Deal? Deal.

April 19th, 2006: Good Place, No Place is being professionally mastered starting... yesterday! The process takes about a week, after which we will assemble the album art and get this thing duplicated. Not long before it cools in your grubby little paws. Closing in on exaltation (or disappointment), always just a lynch or two away...

March 30th, 2006: Quick update before I forget: The finish line is in sight. I stepped down as singer; Justine took the helm and is doing a fine job--just wait until you hear her! (Or did I just get a throat and sex change operation? You'll never know.) She has recorded vocals for Thankless, Can't Catch Jacques, The Mandate, 33rd, and 35th. Alex is marshalling the last of our forces and doing the heavy mixing, which is no easy task--the marshalling or the mixing. Tony recorded bass for 35th, and it makes me want to get up and dance in the rubble. Just about the only thing left to record is the small choir on Thankless (and other songs, as we see fit), as well as some touch ups and vocal re-takes. The lyrics to Can't Catch Jacques and 35th are finally up. We're talking album art and design. There are only twelve Cylon models. It's a good time to be a blue sky theorist.

December 17th, 2005: On the one hand, we're trying to get Good Place, No Place done. This is proving difficult because Callie's voice has gone to hell for no clear reason. He is being treated for all sorts of could-be diseases that might contribute to a years-long descent into soar throats and feeble voice. This is exactly what we didn't need, as we're itching to release this album. Otherwise, Alex is mixing as much of the album as we have, which is almost everything. On the other hand, we've been braving ahead with new material that sounds quite fresh and exciting! At this pace, we'll release the next album at the same time as GPNP. So far, the new songs include: Providence, about a tough little post-apocalyptic Wild West town that is thriving in the wastes despite all the usual hardships; Sandland, about people dying of thirst in a seemingly endless desert; Thistleeden, about the homesickness felt by wayfarers who find themselves much too far away from their precious, fairy-tale-like city of birth. Check out the lyrics! Songs without lyrics include one inspired by the tales of Robert E. Howard, one inspired H.P. Lovecraft, and an instrumental song written by Justine, with input by Josh. Overall, Alex and Callie no longer have a duopoly on the songwriting of the band. This is cause for celebration, because we were running out of steam in some ways, while Josh and Justine's ideas still smell like baby skin! I suppose I should mention that Justine did go away to college but returned quite soon thereafter due to something we'll refer to as "Traism". We had a new keyboardist named John for a few weeks, and he was a great guy with some huge skill, but he soon had other plans. Luckily for us, Justine was back! By the way, we were interviewed in the latest issue ("Candy") of Defunkt Magazine, which is crammed with good stuff--I highly recommend you check it out. We're looking for a bassist; we have a promising lead in that regard...

July 20th, 2005: We have a show at The Stork Club on Sunday, August 21st. This will be our last show with Justine, who is heading out east to art school. Also playing are the excellent instrumental progressive rock band Olympian and post-rock Seeded Skies. Don’t miss it! In other news, Cal is back from France and we’re laying down the final vocal tracks for good place, no place. If you live in the bay area and have some vocal experience, we are still interested in volunteers for a track needing some small choir/ensemble work.

May 16th, 2005: The shows at the Hotel Utah and especially The Stork Club were great fun! Thanks to those who came by. We have been hard at work mixing and tracking good place, no place, which is slowly but surely coming into shape. Our next show is in San Francisco at the 4th Annual Post-Apocalyptic Film Festival. We will be playing the entire set of “good place, no place,” with the story of each song explained in detail by Cal. There is no door fee, but the festival is a “semi private” gathering, so those who wish to see us (or attend—and you are encouraged!) should contact Alex.

February 21st, 2005: Two more shows have been added to the shows page. First off, we're playing imusicast this sunday, the 27th. imusicast is a great venue, and the show is all ages. It starts early, at 5:30pm, and we open at 5:30. We're also playing The Stork Club, in Oakland on March 23rd. The recording progresses well. We will be needing some trained choir singers soon--live near us and want to volunteer?

February 17th, 2005: We have a show on April 12th @ The Hotel Utah. We will be playing with compatriots Oswald and Glasshour, two bands we have been meaning to play with for awhile! Both are great art-rockish bands, and the show should be our best yet. We will debut a few new tracks (such as 35th, our 17-minute "epic") from our forthcoming album, good place, no place of which we have just finished the drum tracking. Next come the grueling overdubs, so we are looking at a late April release. See you at the show...

January 13th, 2005: The Blake's show was a success, and we are looking into doing more this winter. Thanks to all who came out! Various pictures from the show are up. In other important news, we are currently doing the drum tracking for our next album "good place, no place." Barring unforeseeables, we should have the recording part done by this february. We'll keep you posted!

November 22nd, 2004: In addition to the upcoming show at Blake's, there will likely be a magazine interview with us soon. Details to follow. Other news: we've parted ways with old bassist Tony, though his legacy remains in many of his basslines. Filling his shoes is the uber-talented Peter Spryer, who is no longer the BST mistress, but officially state-sanctioned lover. He'll be performing with us on Dec 22nd. Until then...

October 21st, 2004: Finally, some new photographs. Thanks, Sarah! Sadly, Justine did not show up in any of the shots; just bright hands floating disembodied in the darkness. Maybe that is her deliberate artistic statement . . . No further details on the next show quite yet. We'll keep you informed.

October 18th, 2004: There's a good chance we will have a show at Blakes on either December 22nd or 29th (both Wednesdays). Few details available yet, except that it would be an 18+ show. We just need to find out from a couple of guys whether they are available to rock on one of those days. More information to follow. By the way, thanks to those who joined the mailing list. Oh, and there may be some photos from the last show posted this week.

October 12nd, 2004: The Red Devil Lounge show was great! There's something to be said about whimpers, but we started and ended with a bang. A thousand thanks to all who came out to see us--Andrew from Oswald, James (from Control Theory and other bands), and the rest of you. Thank you also to the rockin' bands Fred and Hazy, who stayed past their bed times to watch our set. Stay tuned for upcoming shows. In fact, we should put a "shows" section up here one of these days. In the meanwhile, join the mailing list on the frontpage (and wish Josh luck on his Kung Fu tournament in China!)

October 2nd, 2004: Blue Sky Theory is art imitating art: the world of Wave After Wave ended long ago, but still we thrive in the ruins and desolation, clinging to scraps of hope. Finally, a new dawn brims on the black horizon! We've got a gig Monday, October 11th, at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. There will be independent films and art as well as live music. Other bands on the ticket are "Fred", "Hazy", "Alex Walsh", and possibly(?) "Oswald". We have waited much too long to rock out on stage, and we want you to be there to witness it. New material, new line-up, same great taste! Come see Josh work in a coal mine and a steel mill! Come see Justine fulfill her destiny! $10 entrance fee; doors open at 7PM, we play at 11PM.
