In the pre-apocalyptic phase known as Wave after Wave, I was but a child. While I tinkered away on the old grand, atomic explosions emanated from the garage. Was it signaling the end of civilization, as we know? No, it was Katsu, the ultimate weapon of the band’s mass destruction. From the ashes of the band’s percussive annihilation, arose the post-apocalyptic creation: Blue Sky Theory. At that moment I decided to leave the shelter of musical solitude, and join forces with the few survivors of the artistic wasteland known as the 21st century.

I am the keyboardist in this new frontier, and I have been playing on the piano almost as long as my brother Alex has been playing the guitar. I have always loved the piano because the instrument is laid out in a way that suggests endless possibilities for creative expression. Much of the music that has influenced me is based on the piano as a primary instrument. Being a hopeless romantic it is no accident that I favor the romantic period of classical music, and especially the works of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Liszt and Wagner. I connect with music that is emotionally overpowering, whether morose or triumphant.

I admire bands like Yes (in the pre-apocalyptic 1970’s) because like the romantic masters they are emotionally complex, melodious, and never mundane. All of these musical influences lead me naturally to Blue Sky Theory.

Other musical influences: Opeth, Fields of the Nephilim, Midnight Oil, LPD, King Crimson, Rush
